After 50 mins drive we cross to Peljesac peninsula and stop in small town of Mali Ston. Our friend – local fisherman and retired military colonel (who our guests absolutely adore)is waiting with his boat and we take a ride together to his oyster beds, followed by oyster tasting on site accompanied with his home made fresh white wine. You get to see how mussels and oysters grow and take photos with oyster lines full of live oysters. Mali Ston Bay is protected from all winds, so sea is always calm – nobody ever got sea sick!
15 min scenic drive from Mali Ston through Peljesac vineyards to village of Ponikve famous for its Plavac Mali wine (cousin of Californian Zinfandel). We are stopping at family boutique winery for presentation and wine tasting. You will have a chance to talk to the owner and see their cellars as well as taste their white and red wines as well as fruit liqueurs they produce.
10 min drive back to the town of Ston town. Medieval place is famous for its great city walls – second largest preserved fortification system in the world, its charming Gothic center and its salt pans. Salt was major money generator in medieval times (salt was very dear and in high demand in those days). We will do a short walking tour of Ston, and a short free time to buy some souvenir, coffee or another glass of wine (there is a great wine bar in Ston offering most of Peljesac red wines by the glass).
50 min drive back to Dubrovnik – end of tour.
